On Tuesday, veteran democratic Sen. Robert Byrd spoke out against those attacks while at the same time declaring his opposition to Rice`s nomination.

Well, well, well. I'm sure everyone knows about this by now. An Ex-KKK leader opposes a black woman. A tiger really can't change his spots.

    I think that about sums it up.

    Face it there are plenty of reasons to oppose the nomination of both Rice and Gonzales that have nothing to do with their race. Nor with Byrd's past.

      • It is a good quote. Except that Al S. speends his time railing against the color issue and not the kind issue. If he would like to choose one and stick with it, then possibly he would be more respected.

      Even John "F" Kerry said Condi was qualified for the position during the hearings. So did he vote for her before he voted against her?

      As far as Barbara Boxer goes - to borrow a quote from Dubya - there's a mainstream in American politics, and Barbara Boxer is not even on the Left Coast - she's so far left she can't even see, smell, or hear the water.

      I think what's really at the core of this issue is that for over 40 years liberals in this country have been telling minorities that
