Journal bmetzler's Journal: The Gift That Kept On Giving 2

Kerry first voted FOR the $87 billion for the troops, because, as he admitted publically, no Senator was going to vote against money for the troops. This was before the Howard Dean/Michael Moore Anti-War faction of the Democrat party showed up to play though. When the final $87 billion vote came up though in October of 2003, Kerry voted *against* it, possibly an a final attempt to appease the antiwar faction after mistaking voting for the Iraq war in the first place.

This might have won him the primary, but by the time the November 2nd had rolled again, he had firmly made a case that he would fight in Iraq, and would do a better job then President Bush did. Not only did this attempt to first please a minority party faction, then appease Americans just not work, but it also gave Karl Rove the gift that kept on giving.

Reflecting on how he delivered President Bush his second term, White House political adviser Karl Rove admitted Sunday that John Kerry's vote for, then against, funding in Iraq and Afghanistan was the "gift that kept on giving."
