Man, they're trying to get me to buy valium. I suppose I would need valium if I started getting that kind of spam.

I suspect a black ploy by the FBI to crack open a few emailboxs. Some agent goes to an internet cafe, grabs a list of 1000 addresses including a few that they're interested in, sends a deeply incriminating and national-security-button-pushing spam, and viola! Instant National Security Letters for carnivoing silent access to all the ISP accounts any agent could ever want.

You should ask Allison Mankin to ask Vint Cerf have a look at it. He follows anti-spam efforts concerning IETF publication addresses, which used to be more of a problem than IETF addresses forged as return addresses. Oh, how my mailbox regrets RFC 2586.
