Journal FortKnox's Journal: Trifecta Complete 15

Today marks a sad day, when we lost the life of Jacob Cohen (aka Rodney Dangerfield). Shouldn't be much of a surprise, within the past three years, he's had 2 heart sugeries, a heart attack, an aneurizm surgery, brain surgery, and slipped into a mild coma. Regardless, its CaddyShack time tonight.

In other news, Howard Stern announced this morning that after his contract is up (in January 2006), he's signed a contract to move to Sirius Radio (satellite radio). Looks like satellite radio has its 'big star' now, so we'll see how it grows (the announcement already sparked the stock up).

And in even more news, Mel Brooks (the God of comedy in my family) is writing Spaceballs 2. To be out "a week before the next star wars" optimistically, and "a year after the next star wars" pessimistically. Star Wars 3 is due out in May.

  • I've listened to Stern pretty much all my life (which is what happens when you grow up in NJ, you don't have to worry about syndication) -- I have to say, I *liked* the show more when he started getting all angry and political. I don't want to lose the FCC bashing.

I think satellite's a good move for him though -- he's blocked out of too many major markets for political reasons (ATL is the first that comes to mind) And Dish Network carries Sirius, so I'm all set. :)

  • Spaceballs is/was a classic. You don't mess with a classic.

There aren't that many #2s that were equal to or better than the original, are there?

    • If someone else did spaceballs 2, I'd start a petition to get it stopped, but the man, himself... Mr. Mel Brooks is working on it, and I will always believe in his movies.

What he REALLY needs to make is Blazing Saddles 2, or History of the World, part 2 (Hitler ON ICE!) ;-)
      • Cleavon Little, Gregory Hines, Madeline Kahn, and John Candy are all dead.

But, thanks to the magic of CG, they can live forever, churning out sequel after sequel, forever--and all for no pay, baby! :)

        • Ack! I didn't know Empress Nympho (Kahn) was dead. Just looked it up. Ovarian cancer. Bum deal.

And I was REALLY upset when I heard Gregory Hines passed away. He was never truely appreciated for all his talents, IMHO.

Cleavon Little... another one cancer took too early... ugh... looking at the cast of blazing saddles, a good deal of them had passed away. But the only real major one from SpaceBalls missing is John Candy....
    • he shouldn't make a sequel; he should just re-do all the parts of the first one he didn't like and re-release it.
      • And make it so Lone Star doesn't shoot first... and Dark Helmet's Schwartz is really big and...and... and Spaceball 1 is like, 10 times longer than the original...and, when Colonel Sanders shows Dark Helmit the VHS of "now," it is actually a DVD...and uh... Yogurt is all CG...

    • Brooks is usually a home run, or a strike out. Spaceballs was an oddity in that it was maybe a triple.

But I'd call it a homerun just because of the chestburster doing the Michigan J. Frog dance across the table.
      • The best Mel Brooks movie? I have to go with "History of the World, Part I" with "Blazing Saddles" a close second.
      • Yeah. I love Spaceballs, and that's one of my fav. parts.
        • Sorry... the best part is:
Dark Helmet : Careful you idiot! I said across her nose, not up it!
Laser Gunner : Sorry sir! I'm doing my best!
Dark Helmet : Who made that man a gunner?
Major: I did sir. He's my cousin.
Dark Helmet : Who is he?
Colonel Sandurz : He's an asshole sir.
Dark Helmet : I know that! What's his name?
Colonel Sandurz : That is his name sir. Asshole, Major Asshole!
Dark Helmet : And his cousin?
Colonel Sandurz : He's an asshole too sir. Gunner's mate First Class Philip Asshole!
          Dark Hel
