Journal mskfisher's Journal: Stem cells come from where? 4

http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/science/08/27/jaw.transplant.ap/index.html

"According to this week's issue of The Lancet medical journal, the German doctors used a mesh cage, a growth chemical and the patient's own bone marrow, containing stem cells, to create a new jaw bone that fit exactly into the gap left by the cancer surgery."

So... wait. We can get stem cells from other sources than just embryos?

No, that can't be. The Democrats and the media have been making a stink about President Bush limiting stem cell research - but all he's done is limit federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.
So there's other research that can be done?

Amazing.

Stem cells come from where?

  • I wonder how the heck you get along with a frigging jaw bone growing in your back. I suppose it wasn't a full sized jaw bone, or if it was, it was placed somewhere padded where it wouldn't poke important organs.

    Amazing, in any case.

    • There are a couple good pictures along with the article.
      • yeah . . . I can't believe that CAT scan photo (or was that mislabeled)... the one that showed the mesh in place of the jaw. Frickin amazing picture. It had to have been composited from the scans... Otherwise I would swear I was looking at a mummy.

from the government sucking somewhere other than the government's teat.

And here you were thinking I was going somewhere else with that subject
    line, huh? ;-)

If stem cell research was as promising as the left seems to think, then
there would be schools and businesses diving in with tons of capital to
research the area. On top of that, there are plenty of other places to
find stem cells, but it is more fun to politicize the issue by saying
