Journal $carab's Journal: Disabling /. ads 1

I just thought this should get out there...

If you are running Linux, add the line:
127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net

to your /etc/hosts file.

In Windows, search for "hosts" and edit the file in notepad, adding the line above.

Your (inline) ads should now become DNS errors. Cannot get rid of top banners this way, because they are hosted by images.slashdot.org, and that way you'd lose all of the images on the site!

Disabling /. ads

Comments Filter:
  • I think starting today that /. has converted all their ads to local, meaning that banner ads are no longer hosted with ad.doubleclick.net, but instead with images.slashdot.org

There is one option, however, and that is to mirror the /. pictures onto localhosy, but not mirror the ads. If someone has lots of bandwith and doesnt mind, it would be awesome if you could do this (It would also get rid of the banner ads).

Trying to be happy is like trying to build a machine for which the only specification is that it should run noiselessly.

Working...
