Journal MonTemplar's Journal: The X-Men Reloaded 6

[StanLee]Hey there, true believers![/StanLee]

It's all change for the X-books in April, when Marvel is due to do its much-trailed Reload.

Joss Whedon is indeed writing a X-book, but not, as speculated, New X-Men - instead, it's a brand new title, Astonishing X-Men. Yeah, I think that name sucks, too, but I'll reserve judgement until I find out who's going to be in it and how it fits into the scheme of things.

Unfortunately, Chuck Austen is not getting the push just yet. New X-Men will drop the New, and be handed over to his tender loving care. Joy. :-)

No surprise about Chris Claremont and Alan Davis taking over on Uncanny X-Men, although the small matter of the X-Treme X-Men becoming the new Excalibur might be. Oh, and they may be missing Bishop, who is getting his own series, District X.

The continuity mess between New X-Men and New Mutants is to be resolved, when the latter becomes Academy X. Could be a bumpy ride, with Professor X leaving for Genosha (and Excalibur), and Scott Summers and Emma Frost running the School for Gifted Youngsters...

Meanwhile, Weapon X is to re-join the continuity somewhat, Mystique is still doing her thing (still working for Xavier?), and Cable and Deadpool are still flat-sharing. :-)

[StanLee]Excelsior![/StanLee]

OTOH, I found Ultimate X-Men and X-Men Unlimited to be quite good books. We'll see how the X-Universe looks after this latest "event".
    • He's lined up to work on Excalibur, so you're out of luck on that count...

Yeah, I like the Ultimate stuff too, but X-Men and Spiderman.

Well, I guess that's one X-Book that will be permanently off my list. Reading the couple of issues of X-Treme I picked up made me want to poke my eyes out. The story was okay, but the artwork... Ugh!

I've settled on Ultimate X-Men and Ultimate Fantastic Four, along with The Ultimates of course. I've also started picking up The Avengers which seems to have a pretty good

Wasn't Astonishing X-Men the name of one of the Age of Apocalypse books, when they all changed to funky titles? I'm fairly certain that's where I remember that name from.
    • Actually, third time around - first during the Age of Apocalypse, and again after Operation Zero Tolerance.

      • I think the name worked durng the AoA story, because the new titles were similar to the existing titles, yet different in a slightly outrageous way. As a regular title, I don't know...

IN MY OPINION anyone interested in improving himself should not rule out becoming pure energy. -- Jack Handley, The New Mexican, 1988.
