The Laws of Slashdot #4 - first sighting of Thrillbert's Law:

New laws to govern electronics and transistors will become obsolete every few years and will be replaced by new and improved laws which again will become obsolete as we as humans become smarter and find newer and better ways of creating things.

  • All the various laws about technology and progress are not truly laws.

    Natural laws are scientific and mathematical principles that cannot be violated, at least in the framework to which they apply. The laws of thermodynamics are good examples, as well as the laws of conservation of mass and energy.

      I agree entirely. However, I think that when most people talk about Moore's Law, or Godwin's Law, or Murphy's Law, they realize that they're not actually stating a fundamental truth. These are "minor" laws - call them "observations with useful predictive value" or "theorems of behavior" if you'd like - that can be (and are, sometimes routinely) violated.
