Journal handsomepete's Journal: Wow. Nautilus CD burner actually works. 6

On a whim I decided to put burn:/// in to the Nautilus location bar this evening since I'd heard that there are new drag and drop CD burning capabilities built in to it. I was completely floored when I dragged a 380MB file to it, hit the "Write to CD" button and hit OK on the dialog (it already knew that my CD burner was a SONY DVD+-RW) that it worked without any problems whatsoever. It even figured out max speed and burned it quickly. Tested the CD in another (Windows) PC and it reads fine. Did I mention that I'm not using scsi emulation? Super neat. Why the hell can't any other gui based burning programs do this? Now if only I could get it to make an audio CD...

Is anyone else getting randomly logged out of slashdot these days? It seems like it happens any time I do something journal related.

    • I haven't been able to get K3B to cooperate with atapi burning yet (at least not with the version currently in portage...). The most recent version of Xcdroast does work with atapi burning, but veeeeeerrry slowly. I'd just break down and use scsi emulation, but for some odd reason it breaks the DVD playing functionality of the DVD drive. And that makes me sad.

        • Hmmm... 0.9 also. In that case, somethin' ain't right. I'll give it another run tonight or tomorrow. Thanks - I probably would've forgotten and given up on it otherwise.
        • I tried k3b again and it tells me that cdrdao v1.1.7 (I think) does not support atapi burning and to either upgrade cdrdao to a newer version (which there isn't one that I can see) or use scsi-emulation. Working today but I'm going to dig through the forums while I'm working. I know people have gotten this to work, I just haven't figured it out yet.

System going down in 5 minutes.

Working...
