That about sums up last night. There was big anniversary party at work last night, which means LOTS of beer and wine.

The main downfall is that these nights tend to go very late, and ultimately end up in a local bar. That of course means that I miss the last subway home and have to get a taxi.

From downtown to the 'burbs where I live is almost 30 bucks. Not exactly a lot of money, but considering the subway is only 2 bucks, it isn't exactly cheap either.

The key is to find somebody who lives close enough to you to split the fare. That isn't a secret, and I have been doing it for years. What I did discover, however, is a way to make it even more economical: Pick up somebody else just after the first passenger gets out. Make that person chip in a few bucks and you can potentially get home for free. Added bonus: The second passenger might even let you bum a smoke off of him (if you happen to be the kind of person who likes to get drunk and have the occasional smoke, that is.)
