"Right wing" response

  • Left and right wing certainly no longer mean what they used to, and bear zero relationship to what they originally meant in the 18th century.

Anyways, China is in a big transition period and probably can't be classified in any meaningful way for another 10 or 20 years regardless.

    • Agreed.

So, my question is (a bit off the original topic) with the Democrats in such a mess, beyond much reasonable hope of recovering, who'll create the third party to replace them? I mean, in American history that's pretty much the pattern.

Unless, of course, a party changes from within. I mean, the Republican Party today is a distant echo of the party of Lincoln, including all the northern Nativist folks who swept into it in the late 1850s.

Obviously, the Greens aren't going to work. They are far too

      • I don't know who will replace the democrats, but it won't matter. Those who currently define the democratic party will infiltrate whatever new party may rise up to take their place. After a while, it'll be mostly the same bad ol' democrats with a new front and a few new faces. The politicians themselves won't give up their power so easy, you can be sure of that. Um, they were. Check out the strikes in 1877 that started against B&O RailRoad in Pittsburgh and quickly spread to Buffalo, Milwaukee, Cleveland, St. Louis and elsewhere. Instigated by socialists.

Or the "anarchists" of Haymarket Square, Chicago in 1886.

Let's not forget Eugene Debs, who appeared on the scene

  • There's a long article about political taxonomy [fool.com] mentioned today over at The Motley Fool [fool.com] which addresses this same subject.

I do not know if The Fool's message boards are public access but at least all The Fool's subscribers can check it out.

    It's interesting.
