Reinforcing addiction

It didn't really happen for me until I hit 'excellent karma.' The addiction is reinforced not only by people responding to your (==one's) posts and therefore stroking your ego by paying attention to you at all, but mainly with the dangerously addictive substance of karma: being modded up actually means someone with only a few spare karma points is affirming the worth of your posts, and not just pausing to say something for themselves at your prompting.

Well, the wife and children I might have otherwise had by now if I weren't reading Slashdot so much.

What sucks is when your friends all start to read Slashdot, too, and then you never have anything interesting to tell them that they don't already know.

All my information comes from two sources: Slashdot and The Daily Show. Does that make me a bad person?

you can run this [slashdot.org] on a cron -- it might make things easier. ;) yes, it's poorly coded. but you can see replies and mods without having to go too nuts.
