Journal irc.goatse.cx troll's Journal: Moderation rant.

While looking at one of the current topics, 'What's Your Favorite Underappreciated Movie?', I couldnt help but notice the huge number of comments. As I post this(1am central), there are currently 1127comments. While thats not too abnormal, Look at the moderation breakdown:
-1: 1130 comments
0: 1126 comments
1: 1027 comments
2: 455 comments
3: 6 comments
4: 2 comments
5: 2 comments

What does that mean? My first thought was about how poor the signal:noise ratio must of dropped to have 1126 comments, but only 6 worth moderating up. While I'm sure thats partially true I also have a second theory; People would rather post than moderate, because they felt strongly on the subject. Whats so wrong with that? That means the people moderating have no knowledge on the subject at hand. While in this case its purely an oppinion thing, this isnt the first time this has happened. Why does slashdot make only those least interested/knowledgeable on something be the ones to decied who gets moderated up?
