Journal neutrino38's Journal: Apple and IP V6

Apple Computer announced last year that starting from June 1, 2016, they would not accept any application that would not support IP V6 only networks. This is a good move from a major player that could increase the acceptance of IP V6. We understand that this protocol is also the preferred choice for telco operator that are getting headeache dealing with IP V4 exhausion.

As a company operating services based on SIP protocol, migrating to IP V6 end to end for us would be of a great benefit: it would eventually enable us to remove NAT and SIP ALG from the communication path. Both mechanism are often not fit for SIP / RTP sessions and their implementation is often broken.

But .. we are not ready. Migrating a whole infrastructure to IP V6, testing the whole thing and so on is not an easy task. Furthermore, our hosters in Canada do not offer IP V6 access.

So we have to rely on the NAT46 provided by the mobile operator ... again.

We advocated this to Apple but .. they only say no. As usual.
