Journal The Fun Guy's Journal: 190.7 Oven = hot, hot, hot 4

Glow bar arrived today. It took ~45 minutes to install it and put everything else back in. Push the button and, WHOOSH, everything lit up just as it was supposed to. Everybody say, "Hot, hot, hot!"

I'm very, very, very slightly troubled by the fact that I ended up with two more screws than I started with, but such is life.

I figure that between the dishwasher and the oven, I saved between $500-600 in repairs with these little exercises of DIY-ness. That's good, since a new muffler for my car (yesterday) and new brake pads and rotors for my wife's van (today) added up to $650.

Just think how broke I'd be if I hadn't done the work myself.

That's right! $1200 broke!

  • why do you hate the economy? you should have traded in your wife's van for something twice as expensive and replaced your appliances with new ones. Now that would be patriotic.

    • Look, I already kept an auto mechanic busy for almost two days. I think I've done my part.

A lot of times I had no idea what I was doing going into it, but there is an immense amount of satisfaction in doing something yourself. And it can be a lot of fun too. I find it also helps justify better things, that are de

Absolutely. You don't get to post "I R STUD" for writing a check to a plumber.

If I had more time, I could have done the brake pads myself, but the rotors were beyond my tool set anyway, so I don't feel too bad. I'll probably need to do the pads on my car this fall.

          Assuming it's still running.

Adding features does not necessarily increase functionality -- it just makes the manuals thicker.
