Journal mcgrew's Journal: I HATE IT!!!!!! 6

The new slashdot home pages SUCK SUCK SUCK SUCK SUCK SUCK SUCK!!!! Who wrote that mess? WTF????

A fellow named ReedYoung added me to his "friends" list. Before slashdot ruined its interface I could click on his name and a radio box would come up to friend him back.

No longer. I don't have a fucking clue how now.

Did slashdot hire somebody from Microsoft? Because that's the #1 gripe I have about Microsoft: as soon as I figure out how to use their godoffal interface and work around its goofinesses, they completely change the goddamned thing.

And like Microsoft, the new idlized journals are butt-ugly.

I want my slashdot back!

</rant>

Update: OK, I went to the "help" page and found out how to add somone to the "friends" list. It's pathetic that you have to click an unlabeled icon to do something like that. What's wrong with T E X T ? Has everyone become completely illiterate to the point that icons ore more recognizable than words?

  • The worst part isn't even how they change things, it's when they change things and don't give you the option to change them back. For now, it's the "beta index", so I can leave it off, but I dread the day when it, like tags now, is mandatory.
    • Turning off the beta index doesn't work for me, and I agree with mcgrew. I was going to post a journal about this, but I'd rather add to someone else's discussion of this than branch off a new one.

      The goggles, they do nothing!

      • Oh, and it's not affected by the "simple design" or "low bandwidth" options either, so there's no way to strip it out.

        Overall, 3.5/10. Slashdot gets some points for making it pretty, but they lose a bunch for breaking the browsing habits I've had since I signed up for a Slashdot account.

          Beauty is in the mind of the beholder. So is butt ugliness.

          • Commenting in your field of expertise there eh McGrew?(-:

            I agree about the change though, its a classic case of change for no other reason than change, grrrr!

            You seem to be slowly telling the details of the lost weekend a while ago, where you would not detail events. Come on now tell us what really happened!

      • Yeah, I realized after I replied what mcgrew was referring to (I hadn't yet been to my user page when I replied). What a terrible change.
