And well constructed. It's not comfortable, but I suspect that it was not meant to be.
Pity... I don't think much of the emotion. It implies an inequality, a difference in status between the one who is doing the pitying and the one who is being pitied. That sort of attitude is rarely helpful, and, yes, stings. There is no one so high that could not be brought low by life in short order. Once one has experienced that, there is love and compassion, but not pity.
