Journal tqft's Journal: Ubunto - Mono 3

Is Mono part of the default Ubuntu (Feisty) install?

This morning Synaptic decided to update the Mono install. Don't want it. Don't use it that I know of.

Is there an easy way to get rid of Mono?

sudo apt-get remove XXXX

What is XXXX?

Or is there an easy way to upgrade to Debian ? SID(?). Am on dialup - so prefer bandwidth friendly (sneakernet?) method.

  • I'm not sure what the command would be for it in the terminal, but I would guess just using mono. My suggestion to try first is looking in the Synaptic package manager (under System > Administration) and doing a search for mono, which should show you everything mono related. That way you can see all the libraries and whatnot. It does look like some of them are part of the install (at least for the Grumpy release which I am using) as shown by the little Ubuntu icon.       Yeah I had a look in synaptic but there is too much stuff to play with rather than act knowingly on. I would rather know first what is going to break.

      Like I said maybe give Ubuntu the heave and replace with something that won't have mono at all.
      • Not sure if this is too late or not, but synaptic will warn you if you try to remove something that is a dependency for something you are still using.

In any formula, constants (especially those obtained from handbooks) are to be treated as variables.
