Question for OldHawk777 (19923)

  • To paraphrase you: 'I would die defending The USA Constitution from those who are falsely sworn to uphold it.'

I have sworn to defend The USA Constitution (complete, not part) from enemies foreign and domestic. I believe the vote is still functional. I hope we will always be able to vote out incumbents (local and federal), and end all political careers after one term forever in the USA.
    • I have sworn to defend The USA Constitution (complete, not part) from enemies foreign and domestic.

Civil Servant or military? Military would be my guess. Which branch? Where were you stationed? Is the oath legally binding even after discharge (I figure it's ethically binding at the very least)?

Not being particularly patriotic myself (and how upset it makes me), I can only imagine how upset the bi-partisan perversion of the Constitution is for you.
      • I enlisted (for four) in the USMC 1969 at about 17yo, I was discharged in 1971 on the day Louie Armstrong died. I was never in Vietnam. I was (working with US forces) in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi ... from 19901215 to19910630. The/my oath is binding as a citizen forever, unless I go into politics, then (from observing reality) all oaths (or the politicians) are obviously worthless and lost.

Live like an immortal, die like a hero, or waste away like a legend was never an option (thank god). I was always able to avoi
        • I've never taken an oath of loyalty of any sort. I've not even said the pledge of allegiance in school. (That was as a result of the religion of my parents, of which I am no longer a member). The religion is also the primary reason I didn't enlist out of high school.

That caused quite a brouhaha one year in middle school. The teacher whose classroom I happened to be in when it was time for the pledge just about blew a gasket because I wouldn't say the pledge. He was a Marine and took quite a bit of umbrage t
          • My idolatry is expressed by implicit and explicit ideals in The USA Constitution. Solemn equal rights of all humanity, not any paradise or punitive mythology, or dogmatic regurgitated philosophies of any gang. Mythology, religion, dogma ... god, gods, elves, angels, demons, goblins ... all the bullshit makes for nice stories and pseudo-moral truth for child like adults.

Any human can have many reasons for living or committing suicide, but
only humans of great value can decide what they value more than life.

    • Old Hawk,

My current case against Ron Paul [slashdot.org]. I don't expect to be picking up much karma from it though. Have a look. You may be surprised at what I've dug up.

I know I've gone over this with you before, but my oath to defend and uphold the Constitution was under entirely different circumstances, as I was a conscript medic. I have been at times surprised by the force of my will to uphold this old personal oath over the last several years, but I do not question whether I hold the high ground. It is the g

      • Interesting. When you say conscripted medic, is that because your skills were rare and in demand, kind of like the doctors on M*A*S*H*?

The way I see it, an oath is an oath. No way out, unless there's a specific clause (like "Till death do us part")

And one never needs to apologize for off-topic comments in my jounral. Or IN SOVIET RUSSIA jokes or anyhting of that sort.
        • Who got picked-up a lucky winner in the lottery draft during the Vietnam War.

I became a medic because of my family's religion, which believes that the commandment "Thou Shalt Not Kill" is both literal and absolute, but at the same time believes very strongly in serving one's country. It was a type of Conscientious Objector, without a deferment, and the military took it at face value, sort of. My DI at Boot Camp tried very hard to get me enraged. I spent almost an entire Vietnam tour as an evac chopper m
