goin to vegas this weekend, first time going there since i turned 21

just got a call from a friend asking if i wanted to go, really cheered me up since i've been a little depressed lately

Why archive journal comments?

For example, I wanted to comment on the realdoll entry. Seems to me journals should be commentable indefinitely. My guess is the programmers hacked journals from existing article management code, and it was too much work to retool the archiving feature. Or maybe it's a physical resource issue. I hope it's not an arbitrary management decision that people should only be allowed to comment on journals while they are fresh.

Anyway what I wanted to say about the negative news report on realdoll.com: it is not surprising that women react negatively to it, because if it ever catches on (imagine adding motor capabilities and AI), they will no longer control the sex supply, and will lose power as a result. So they feel threatened...

After two weeks of inactivity, all discussions become archived. That's for front page stories, too. I think they probably did it for security reasons, otherwise people could go in and flood old stories without negatively impacting their "karma".

I'm sure many women do feel threatened by the sex dolls, but I think the main reason they're not accepted is because most Americans are so outwardly sexually conservative. It's the same reason masturbatory devices are illegal in some states. The movie Cherry 2000 [imdb.com] has exactly what you describe, robots made of synthetic flesh with AI used for amorous purposes. It's bad movie, but unique in 1987.

nvbrothels.com- some of those ladies look pretty classy and the forum is very interesting. But I'm not really the type to pay for sex- at least not directly :). I'll just be enjoying my winnings and inebriated from free drinks.
