Journal Monica's Journal: novemberness. 1

so i turned in two law school applications today, yay! i remembered tonight that i forgot to send with one of them the application fee, so i'll have to mail that tomorrow, but still. i'm done with those!

    they're the two i most wanted, boston college and northeastern. and i'll probably hear from them in january. before then, i'll try to research some more. eh. maybe.

    i found this one that sounded cool, but then i looked at the stats, and it turns out that their mid-50% LSAT range were scores i could get in my sleep. which says to me that the students there won't necessarily engage me academically. but the philosophy's neat.

best spam offers of the week (with actual excerpts):

1. Diabetic Socks ("If you have no need for diabetic or circulation hosiery, delete this and get on with the good life.");

2. Christmas stockings personalized with your pet's name ("Whether your pet's been naughty or nice, they still deserve a Customized Stocking."); and

3. Homer Simpson talking bottle opener ("Must...Have...Beer! When the metal on the opener touches a bottlecap, Homer sounds off with his trademark phrases of pleasure as liquid pours. No buttons to push, batteries included.")

    I'm going to Cuba over january. i found a program through marist where there are classes taught and tours led in english. sounds cool to me. and it's legit with the feds, so we can fly straight from jfk to havana, without sneaking through the bahamas or mexico or something. nice.

    cuba and taiwan are my favorite rogue states. i dunno if you remember, but last year, i was taking a 20th century foreign policy class, and i became obsessed with the cuban missle crisis. i'm sure i posted about it. it's great.

    i realized that two of my favorite musical styles ever are ragtime and bluegrass. i think it's because they're both really busy. in ragtime, as i realized tonight listening to this blues guy play in our cafe, there might be a sad-sounding theme, but it's always on top of another theme that's happy-sounding. there's always something in there that's happy. sure, bard composers can write all the new-age music they want, but they'll never get something as cool as ragtime.

    ragtime, bluegrass, mozart, and bach. that's what it's about. that's some music.

    tomorrow's tony's birthday. wish him a happy one. i think it's 19 for him. we're making him fettucine alfredo, vegetarian-like, and inviting over all our friends, like we do every friday.

    so my computer's been crashing on boot, which sucks. i just installed a security patch for ie, so i'm going to uninstall that and see if that fixes anything. i just need this damn machine to last until summer, and then i'll get a laptop for law school. damn it. why don't things last more than 3 years anymore?
