Journal MyDixieWrecked's Journal: tattoo error averted, luckily. whew! 4

Oh, god damn I'm lucky. it's a good thing I didn't get 1010010100 tattoo'd on me...

Fuck my memory. I can't remember shit. That's how I memorized 666 in the ol' binary. Good thing... oh man...

1010011010 is what it should be. Thanks to the user by the same name (I ran across his name and recognized the pattern but wondered why it was different).

Maybe I memorized it right, it's just that the java applet that I used was erroneous? Probibly the latter, although my memory is shot due to excessive use of various flavours of methlenedioxymethamphetamine... (Did I spell that right).

Oh well... I'm just relieved.

  • Why would you want 666 in binary tatooed on yourself?

(Please don't think I'm trying to attack your intentions or anything, I'm genuinly interested in your answer.)

First off, 666 is just a symbolic number. Back in the days when the bible was written, the number 7 symbolized completeness, whereas 6 was incomplete because it was so close to 7 but wasn't quite there. Thus three number 6's in sucession symbolized extreme uncompletion or the devil in this case, being removed from God.

Also, very, very few people will understand the conotation of the binary and so you will be asked repeatedly what it means, as opposed to the instantaneous recognization of the normal numbers.

And thanks in advance for answering my question.
    • holy shit. Someone read my journal!

well, to answer your question, I'm a bit of a math freek (as most /.'ers seem to be). I'm utterly facinated with strange number bases, especially binary. I'm also a bit of a "satanist."

I'm not a satanist in that I worship the devil, but in that I am very into the idea as a whole. The syzygy of 6s looks very aesthetically pleasing to me, as do many other related symbols and images. ...call me strange

I already have 2 tattoos on me. One says "Demon" in sandskrit, which people always ask me about, and the other is a nautical star with some strange texture on it, which people also always ask me about. The girl I got both tattoos with got 3 stars on her lower back and people even ask her what meaning it has. I don't understand why everything has to have a meaning, why can't a person just do something because they think it's cool? But that's a totally different story.

Anyway, getting back to my reason...

I'd much rather have a cryptic message that is perminantly embedded in my flesh than an obvious symbol, not only because it prevents people from judging me (not that I'm not already judged simply because of my tattoos and piercings), but it also aids in social interaction ("hey, what's that mean?!?").

Other ideas I've had were possibly a base 4 encoding of 666, or md5 hash of that or "satan" or something to that effect. Maybe my name. I dunno. call me crazy.

So, that's my story. Whadaya think?

I think that getting tattoos of satanist imagry meshes with your interests and identitiy and you should go with it. Definatly glad that you didn't get the messed up binary done, disaster averted. (what would it have said, had they done it wrong?) And I get what you mean, regarding not having to have the imagry immediatly spell it out for the world. My sister has our last name tattooed on her bicep, and she gets a load of shit about, "so is it so you can remember your name when you're drunk".

And body art is a very personal thing, and should be done with forethought, not just because everyone else is, and you would be "cool" if you went along with it. For me, I don't have any tat's or piercings, and my sisters certainly make up for my lack. It is interesting how such different personalities can emerge from the same upbringing, but I digress.
        • 1010010100 = 660; not quite what I had in mind. ;P

maybe I'll get my birthdate/time in unix timecode->binary. that'd be cool. have it wrap around something or something somewhere.
