  • I like everything I've seen from Ghibli, but I love Earthsea. (And pretty much everything else of LeGuin's I've read.) If she doesn't like the way they treated her story and characters, I don't think I could bear to watch it.

    It's a damn shame.

I love the Earthsea books to (especially the first one); she at least gave a lukewarm thumbs up to Gedo Senki (at least, that was what I came away with from her comments). She didn't love it, but she knew that any movie adaptation would be a different story. She absolutely hated the abomination that the scifi channel spewed forth (I haven't seen it, and never will).

This is why I am glad Orson Scott Card is keeping close control of the movie adaptation of Ender's Game (the only downside being that the movie

Yeah, that is why I don't understand the scifi miniseries; if you are going to just pull a completely different story outta your butt, why even bother licensing the book in the first place??? As much as people complain about the LOTR trilogy, I liked it; yes it was different from the Tolkien books, but that could never be avoided, and I enjoyed them as they were, and they were a reasonable "based on the books of Tolkien" adaptation. And I certainly have heaps of respect for Le Guin; she is an awesome writer
  • Damn, I want to see this.

I hope they were at least honest to the books. The movie by SciFi channel was nothing like the books. :-\

I have seen what appear to be copies of this floating around on the torrent sites, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it is in japanese without subtitles or anything :-| Assuming it isn't a fake anyway. But I am guessing it will come to the US after the movie/tv rights of the idiotic scifi folks expires in a few years. It does look pretty cool :-)
