Journal Ethelred Unraed's Journal: Ethelred's thoughts on televangelism 11
Turns out, to my shock and horror, The Hour of Power is on the boob tube in Germany as well.
Well, one advantage less to living in Germany.
See, where I grew up in Virginia -- as my brother puts it, in the buckle of the Bible Belt -- on Sundays there was nothing else on TV except televangelists of various stripes. 700 Club, PTL, Hour of Power, you name it -- every channel had some quasi-pious mucketymuck asking for money.
Well, there was one other thing that was on TV on Sundays. Pro rasslin'. Which, come to think of it, may be morally better to watch, because at least them rasslers ain't claimin' to be honest about it all.

Guess I have been in Germany too long. I don't even bat an eye anymore when I see stuff like this [wikipedia.org] while channel-surfing. (That one's practically a staple on late-night weekend TV in Germany.)
Then again, German TV's such shit that I don't even channel-surf anymore.* Mostly reruns of badly-dubbed American TV and/or ripoffs of American or British TV show formats on the private channels, and self-important political blah-blah or dreary natur

Hmm...odd. Slashcode ate the umlauted "a" in the link. *sigh*
Put in an "ä" between the "m" and "d" in "mdchen" and the link will work. (If need be copy the ä in this sentence and paste it in.) Though to be honest there's not much to see on Wikipedia, other than a brief description of what Schulmädchen-Report is. (The name literally means "Schoolgirl Report". There is also a channel called BibleTV [bibeltv.de], which I also have not yet actually seen, but if their schedule is to used as much of a guide, it looks like a pretty good sleep aid rather than any source of entertainment (intentional or otherwise).
