Journal Todamont's Journal: Cancer Cured? 2

Here's the deal. Researchers at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada found a cheap and easy to produce drug that kills almost all cancers. The drug is dichloroacetate, and since it is already used to treat metabolic disorders, we know it should be no problem to use it for other purposes.

Here's the big catch. Pharmaceutical companies probably won't invest in research into DCA because they won't profit from it. It's easy to make, unpatented and could be added to drinking water. Imagine, Gatorade with cancer control. (Article here)

Update Feb 2, 2007: New Scientist article here .

The professor at U of Alberta does have a website, but there is not really any released scientific data that I can see...

    • I actually work with the Cancer Research Center at UNM, and my fellowship is partially funded by the ACS. I would love nothing more than to get an opportunity to help with this research. It would be great if this could work for cancer similarly to the way penicillin works for bacterial infection. At this point I'm still a little skeptical, but I'll definitely follow up on this. My cell biology is not strong enough yet to evaluate this critically, but there is a scientific paper linked from the site set up b [ualberta.ca]

It's a naive, domestic operating system without any breeding, but I think you'll be amused by its presumption.
