Journal DaytonCIM's Journal: What's in my player? 1
What's on my MP3/Phone?
1. The Who - Baba O'Riley
The single greatest rock song of all time.
2. MC5 - Kick Out the Jams
Nothing more powerful - live. Maybe, The Who, but they had a lot more money for a bigger PA.
3. Iggy Pop - Lust For Life
Iggy exhudes everything he sings about and this is his crowning gem - what an amazing song (that was ruined by a fucking Cruise line)
4. X - Johnny Hit And Run Paulene
Saw them for the first time at the Whiskey when I was 14. They are what Punk was truely all about: fuck everything that came before and sing about what you know. And they were LA royalty.
5. The Clash - Clash City Rockers
My favorite band of all time. None better. Sang about things that really mattered (no imaginary frogs in real gardens for these lads). Powerful. Stunning. Melodic.
6. Black Flag - Rise Above
Scared the shit out of everyone when they hit LA. So far ahead of anyone, they truely were Public Enemy Number 1 in LA for a while. And now, Rollins is accepted as an elder statesmen artist.
7. Bad Religion - What Can You Do?
I still go see these guys when they play. Most intelligent punk band on the planet.
8. Fishbone - Party At Ground Zero
Never ever got the recognition they deserved.
9. The Jam - In The City
One of most amazing bands that died at the height of their fame - just the right time.
10. Minor Threat - Straight Edge
Single-handedly launched the Straight Edge movement with this song and represented a whole generation of kids lost during the Reagan Occupation.

But whenever I approach you, you make me look a fool
I wanna say, I wanna tell you
About the young ideas
But you turn them into fears
In the city there's a thousand faces all shining bright
And those golden faces are under 25
They wanna say, they gonna tell ya
About the young idea
You better listen now you've said your bit-a
And I know what you're thinking
You still think I am crap
But you'd better listen man
Because the kids know where it's at
In the city there'
