[NYT] My Days Are Numbered

  • Either this person knows something I don't, and therefore these numbers are meaningful in some way I cannot imagine. Or I know something that this person does not know, and hence why I think most of those numbers are meaningless.

      • Yeah - Rick Moranis. SCTV, Strange Brew (spun off from an SCTV skit), Space Balls, Honey I Shrunk the Kids - and I'm sure lots more but I'm too lazy to go over to imdb and look.
    • I don't think the particular numbers are relevent. He's enumerating all of the useless crap he has gathered around him. The numbers just help to show the magnitude of wasted accumulation. I don't think it would have been entertaining (to me, since it's apparent it wasn't entertaining to you anyway) if he'd just said "I have lots of crap around the house that I don't need." I enjoyed the piece.

Hmmm, if the two kids thing were not there, I might agree.

Everything else on the list becomes pretty irrelevant if you have a higher purpose for your life. If not, then there is nothing wrong with collecting material items if it brings pleasure to one's self.

Perhaps he is finding that life a vanity, and there is nothing new under the sun. He seems to know that there is something else in the world, but doesn't know what it is. Or atleast his list of accumulations does not show what it might be.

He framed the rest of the list with the 2 things that do matter. It began with the fact that they're gone, heading off questions of whether or not he's sharing all of this stuff with others, and ends with their return for Thanksgiving.
  • On the 9 Arm chairs. Either that or the author is filthy rich and lives in a mansion.
    • Apparently acting pays well.
    • How much money would you have if you made all the Honey I shrunk the Kids movies, Spacs Balls, and Ghost Busters, and others? I'd guess "A Whole Hell Of A Lot."

Well the tag line on the article said he did something with some CD I had never heard of.

I don't know who the heck the guy is!
        • well he isn't a tom cruise or anything like that so he has a certain small nich of followers from his B movies. Not that I have anythign against B movies. I love em. Bruce Campbell all the way!

            Bruce Campbell ROCKS.

All the movies you listed above, I wouldn't call any of them "B" movies though. /Maybe/ Spaceballs, but it was intentionally so!

Considering I don't listen to country music, that's an easy thing for me to agree with. That said, it's not hard to find anything on it-- there's his own website [rickmoranis.com] and Amazon.com [amazon.com], just for starters [google.com].

I thought the article was amusing.
