Journal NaveWeiss's Journal: Slashdot code update 4
Slashdot's code was refreshed today, mostly only with cosmetic changes to the preferences dialog - some of them are still buggy, but one nice option was changed and enhanced: The time zone settings.
It used to have a lot of obscure or irrelevant values (PST, EST, IDT etc), and now they finally filled it with normal values, like in the Windows time dialog.. so now I can happily set the time zone to make slashdot show the correct time for me: GMT+2 (they are wrong about the daylight time savings, but it's not their fault.. in my country, DST is changed with the early-praying population in mind, so it's not coordinated with the rest of the world (unless the ruling party is angry on the religious parties))

Look it's quite simple: I live in the CET zimezone, which means Central European Time and that is exactly what is shown now in my preferences page. In case the summer time is applicable you ad an 'S', so currently the abbreviation is CEST: "Central European Summer Time".
Of course I cannot explain *all* abbreviations but you should really be able to identify them. I thought everyone knew the timezone they are in. *sigh*
Oh, and finally, since this website was made for Linux people in general, it was a correct assumption that those people would know about timezone abbreviations. Type date in you shell:

Seems to be ony standardized in Europe, US, Canada and Australia.
Yes, a bit bizarre.. (Score:2)
Presumably West European Time has daylight saving, while GMT applies to other places, e.g. North Africa, as well..
