A U.K. study suggests that westerners are more promiscuous than people in developing countries. In a way I find that surprising as I think many people in America are somewhat prudish. But then again, this is a U.K. study and it does reflect more accurately the sorts of stats my circle of friends and spouse have recounted.
Look at the criteria (Score:2)
They're measuring the number of sex partners per year, not the amount of sex/children one has. These results look completely normal to me. As the ability to control reproduction and STDs increase, the complications from having multiple partners decrease. This in turn changes the expectations of society--aka "moral standards"--which is exactly why traditionalists fight against birth control and STD research. (Google "cervical cancer vaccine" for one example)
