Journal blinder's Journal: [DYPG] Update 15

alright, i've been getting a decent response. i've got a few from talinom, stb and rg (thanks guys!), but i've been wack-crazy busy with teh day job. i've uploaded the one's i have to my server, but i don't have a url quite yet (meaning, i just need to move the files to one of the web sites).

i still have to record mine, i thought i had something, but i didn't like it and lost the pro tools session for it (oops). solemn may also be recording a thing as well (if she can be coaxed into it).

just as a reminder, what this is all about. if you play guitar (do you play guitar, dypg, get it?) and can record yourself playing said instrument, performing something *original* then send it to me. oh yeah, this also includes bass -- so for the bassists out there, send stuff too. i guess this also includes banjo, steel guitar, sitar, mandolin or hell, the cigar box and rubber bands.

at the end of the week (like into next week) i'm a make a web page, with links, and credits, so we can all enjoy the talented (in the 6/4/5/12-string) types around here.

so what say you? are you game?

if you were just not a poser, you'd drop it down to a D and be done with it. then fame and riches would fall at your feet.

well my dear fk... i play the following:

      1. drums/percussion (24 years)
      2. guitar (17 years)
      3. bass (8 years)
      4. keys (off and on for about 5 years)
      5. misc (cello - a little, hammer dulcimer, auto-harp, mandolin)

plus all of the other various noise-making things (i'm good with chairs, buckets, big metal bowls)
and then there's the various electronic stuff (i.e. analog keyboards, which are different, sequencers etc.)

yeah, suffice it to say that given the opportunity and material, i'll make it make noise that may
  • Not to jump the gun, but would there be interest in doing a percussion version of this in the future? I have no recording gear, but would love to hear other people's sets.

yeah i would like to included drums/percussion. the problem is just as you point out. recording drums is a much different animal. recording drums actually takes some minimal recording know-how. recording (most) guitars is simply plugging it into a pod or some such thing, running that into your sound card, what bing-badda-boom, you've got a recording.

drums involved mic placement, some sort of pre-amplicfication, a way to mix the source etc.

it aint easy, and like i am sure you know, it aint cheap (just off th

pfft just replace your always late hanging out with his fat girlfriend no money for rehearsal with a TR-808!

Much easier to record and setup at gigs! And no fat chicks!

Lately I've been stupid busy wrangling a few things--else for later. A recent cherry on top is driving 100 miles to work. Yes, Sam... that 100 miles.

Though I've been completely absent from posting journals and have absconded the front page for months, I still read friends' journals, albeit not as frequently as I'd like. Last monday night (I wonder what blinder's been doing) I found the DYPG journal.

    • If adding vocals had fit the request 1 , I have several jonks I could slap to tape, but I have no "just guitar" pieces of my own 2.

      1. As a guitarist, I am mediocre at best; my "shred" gland is far less developed than my "writing quirky songs" gland.
      2. At least none I've fancied for over a decade, before I realized and came to terms with point 1.
    • I should note that I will soon remove the link containing copyrighted material. If you don't own the CD (Eric Johnson's Ah Via Musicom), buy it. The sound/production is decidedly late 80s/early 90s, but it is a must for every guitarist's collection.
