    an old friend of mine, who i have since lost touch with, used to do a zine. it was a pretty popular zine in the ct/boston area. taang records (i think it was them) sent him a bunch of records to review, one of those records was an early mighty mighty bostones record. well, this was a zine pretty dedicated to hardcore and while the bostones found a cozy home in hardcore back in those days (early 1990's) - we still thought they were absolute rubbish. the review my friend w
    • I grew up in the DC area in the 80s - perfect times to listen to Minor Threat and related bands (and I'm sure I did by extension when the skaters had it on their boomboxes outside my middle school), but for whatever reason I didn't get into Fugazi until years later when a friend of mine who's also a friend of Ian Mackaye told me to buy some Dischord. I've been a fan ever since.

      Add DC punk to classic Go-Go funk (Chuck Brown, Trouble Funk) and you have a pretty damn good town for music. Miss the place.

      • i came to fugazi from the beginning -- but it was through minor threat. i wasn't around during minor threat... but i got into government issue, rites of spring, egghunt, dag nasty in the mid-late 80's and then when i heard that ian formed this "new band" i was pumped, and the first 3-song 7" came out in 1989, i snatched it up the week it came out. i freaked out. it was one of the most intense musical experiences i can remember.
