Journal DaytonCIM's Journal: The AXE fell at NBC 2

Joey - never really got going. Never really develop a story line worth watching.
Surface - I was hooked. Disappointed that NBC won't take a chance.
E-Ring - crap. Glad to see it gone. CBS' Unit did it right.
Teachers - S U C K E D. Terrible.
Four Kings - liked it. Really surprised it failed. Should have introduced a couple more characters to attract a larger audience.
Heist - really, really bad writing and acting...
Conviction - See above.
Fear Factor - 'bout damn time.

And what is replacing 'em?

Well...

Deal or No Deal - 2 nights a week. I like the models...

Heroes - Ordinary people around the world discover they each possess a unique ability, including flight, indestructibility and a way to stop time. Milo Ventimiglia ("Gilmore Girls"), Greg Grunberg ("Alias") and Ali Larter ("Final Destination") star. Hmmmm... sounds interesting.

Friday Night Lights - Based on the hit movie, Kyle Chandler stars as a high school football coach in a small Texas town with Connie Britton ("24") as his wife. Reilly described the show as "'The O.C.' with guts." But it also brings to mind an underrated short-lived 1993 NBC show, "Against the Grain," a family drama set in a small Texas town that featured Ben Affleck as a high school quarterback. Not gonna hold my breath on this one.

Kidnapped - The teenage son of wealthy New York parents (Dana Delany, Timothy Hutton) is kidnapped and the FBI tries to get him back. Jeremy Sisto, Delroy Lindo and Mykelti Williamson also star. Yea, this sounds like a season long Law & Order.

20 Good Years - John Lithgow and Jeffrey Tambor ("Arrested Development") star as mismatched friends and polar opposites who agree on nothing, except that they have only "20 good years" left in their lives, and they plan to maximize them. Quite excited about this one.

30 Rock - Liz Lemon (Tina Fey), the unfortunately named head writer for a variety show, butts heads with a new network president (Alex Baldwin), who forces her to hire a movie star with a bad reputation (Tracy Morgan). Rachel Dratch ("Saturday Night Live") also stars. Eeehhh.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip - Sorkin's look at backstage politics and romance as two new writers (Matthew Perry, Bradley Whitford) attempt to revive a flagging "SNL"-like series. Well... sounds very much like Sorkin is revamping Sportsnight, but with an SNL like show back drop. Could be really good...

Andy Barker, P.I. - Andy Richter stars as an accountant-turned-detective in this comedy co-written and executive produced by his old co-star, Conan O'Brien. Eeehhh

The Black Donnellys - Four working-class Irish brothers get caught up in organized crime in New York in this drama from Paul Haggis ("Crash," "EZ Streets") and Bobby Moresco. I'll pass. You can't have a Mob Drama on Network TV.

The Singles Table - Four singles (including John Cho, "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle") meet at a wedding and bond over their unattached status in this comedy. Four Kings? Wha?

Raines - Pittsburgh native Jeff Goldblum stars as an eccentric Los Angeles detective, Michael Raines, who has the unusual ability to have detailed conversations with deceased crime victims. Graham Yost ("Boomtown") and Frank Darabont ("The Shawshank Redemption") are the writers behind this drama with comedic elements. Uhm... Boomtown? Uhm... Jeff Goldblum? Uhm... suck.
