Why Ghost? Well, because ArcServe doesn't have a Baremetal restore, so I'll need to have a ready OS image for my systems. Why ArcServe? Well, because the Backup for Laptops and Desktops product is very well suited for backing up computers that are not on my LAN.

I'm totally going out on a limb buying the VXA-320, sight unseen. I really hope it works well.

And outlook makes me cry; thank the gods we nearly have everyone weaned off that POS.

    • My current IMAP/POP/SquirrelMail/Exim/LDAP on Linux (FREE) solution, does not have a shared calendar that can be integrated into an Email client. Thus... Exchange server was mandated from on high.

Make no mistake, I'm not taking DOWN my Exim/LDAP with ClamAV and SpamAssassin, I will use it to gateway the Exchange server - in both directions.

      • Ahh good plan. Yeah a world facing exchange server is inviting a world of suffering. And yeah Linux really needs a good integrated email/calendar really really bad. Once evolution runs under windows that might be the ticket. We have been using WebCalendar [utexas.edu] and it seems to work ok, but it isn't integrated.
        • Speaking of integrated... it isn't open source, but GroupWise runs on Linux now. Of course, it isn't quite yet eDirectory free, so you end up with either adding eDirectory to your mix, or living with a password prompt starting up the client.

      I wish we had exchange/Outlook.

Using Lotus notes is an...interesting experience.

And by interesting I mean interesting in the same way a leather clad 6'5" german man inserting random objects into your rectum while whipping you with a 2x4 is interesting.

Hacking's just another word for nothing left to kludge.

Working...
