Journal js7a's Journal: LOCKDOWN(!) in New Orleans 7

Geraldo Rivera of FOX News TV, of all people, broadcast this video (WMV):

Geraldo Rivera and Shepard Smith are reporting that the authorities have just locked everyone in the convention center with no escape, and a checkpoint is stopping people from leaving New Orleans. They set up a check point at the bottom of the bridge out of New Orleans, it's the only way out, per Shep Smith, and if you go the checkpoint they turn you around and send you back to New Orleans.

  • ...if you hold to the notion, like I do, that the federal governments job is not to help people, but to always wield ultimate authority. Government exists to perpetuate itself as the primary reason for its existence. Government is a corporation out to make something off of you, you are the exploited one. People think the government is there to help you, this is wrong. It might be part of the job, but it is way down the list. Look at the timeline, they waited to get involved, letting the situation get more
  • But this is Fox News we're talking about. It could be that they caught off guard by Smith and Rivera being in a state of shock. However, I expect that this could be in preparation to put the blame for the failure on either the city or state governments and claim the the feds did all they could. I don't know the political affilliation of the state's governor and it may not be political. But Fox would have to be very careless to get caught in something that could make negative impressions of their favorit
    • Democratic Governor of LA. You figure it out.
    • Yep that is the official strategy of the White House and RNC talking points, blame the Mayor and the Governor.

Latest lie is that Gov. Blanco still hasn't declared a state of emergency.

The excuses I'm hearing on this sound very similar to what I've heard ineffectual middle management say when they screw something up. Unfortunately someone who was actually trying to fix the problem usually gets the sack and the brown-noser gets a commendation and a promotion.

As they say no good deed goes unpunished.

      Please let
  • I have a potentially faster link to the video here [gh-sts.com].

Here [gh-sts.com] is video of Anderson Cooper opening up on Landrieu on national TV and letting her have it for her political back-patting while people suffer and die.
    • Thanks. The convention center and Louis Armstrong airport are finally being evacuated. The temporary city lockdown was blamed on a bad interpretation of orders to hold the roads open for busses. No word on the convention center fuckup.
  • I'm not sure what it means. But I'm starting to wonder... are we seeing a real atrocity here?

The red countryside around the blue city takes a look at a horde of mostly poor and black refugees from NOLA, and says "NO!" Shortly later, the armed forces (presumably under federal control) close the bridge... And it's literally a case of, "those people can dehydrate and starve and drown - but they are not going to squat on my lawn" - ?
