Journal js7a's Journal: Gallup: America Awakens 6

  • For the first time, a majority of Americans, 51%, say the Bush administration deliberately misled the public about whether Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.
  • By 58%-37%, a majority say the United States won't be able to establish a stable democratic government in Iraq, similar to the results when the question was asked in April 2004.
  • About one-third, 32%, say the United States can't win the war in Iraq. Another 21% say the United States could win the war, but they don't think it will. Just 43% predict a victory.

While on one hand it's nice to see that a majority is recognizing the deception, my questions are - Why has this taken so long? Why is this only 51%?

I can understand that, at best case, this percentage will only reach 65% or so, due to the far-right wing Rush/O'Reilly crowd who will support Bush regardless. But what's the problem here - lack of me

On the other hand, his approval rating is less than a margin of error from the 30s [dailykos.com].

      \^/00t!

      • Very true, but I'd like to see the disapproval rating in the mid-upper 60's. Anything less means there are some undecided people - how can anyone be undecided with such a polarizing administration? The only answer to that would be that a fair percentage are uninformed enough not to know either way.

I can understand when people say they have no interest in politics, but I can't understand not understanding the direction the country is going - that goes beyond the political, in my opinion.

  • yeah. But, next week 51% of Americans will STILL think Elvis is alive.

I would have to guess that any people who changed their minds about this, still don't care that it happened. To them, it's still justifiable through some twisted perception of the words "well meaning".
