Journal NaveWeiss's Journal: The first toll road in Israel 4

Update (23.03.2003): This journal entry sucks.

Following my previous post about the NJ Turnpike, today the first Israeli toll road, Road no. 6 (also known as the cross-Israel road), was opened (it'll be free for the first few weeks).

I haven't used this road yet, but I read about it, and it's much more advanced than most of the other toll roads in the world. Unlike all the other toll roads, like A1 in Italy or the NJ Turnpike (besides of road 407 near Toronto, Canada), you don't have those toll booths where you have to stop and pay - even if you're not subscribed. The video camera takes a picture of the license plate, and the bill gets sent to your house. You don't even have to slow down.

Everything in the road is computerized. This way you can have automatic traffic reports and other stuff like that. The allowed speed is 110km/h (68.3mph), but probably the police won't stop drivers who drive up to 125km/h. :)

Now.. if they only bothered to do something about public transportation around here (eg. subways)..

If you know Hebrew, you can read more about the road here.
