Journal Journal: Working with #6 Fuel Oil
Today was a rough day at work, mainly cleaning up some fuel oil from around some air operated gate valves in the lowest deck of the ships' engine room. I find oil interesting, especially the stuff we burn in our boilers. It is highly viscous at high temperatures (200 degrees Farenhight), yet almost solid at room temperature. It dissolves when any light petroleum distillate is put on it. Unfortunately, LPD dissolves all forms of rubber gloves and dries out your hands really well. Oh well, long day none the less.
