Journal Journal: Not So Teenage Angst

Funny, I was just listening to complaining about dealing with Apple and their customersÕ hardware woes. According to this reliable source... Apple actually expected people who bought the $300 iPod to just BUY a new one when the battery ran out. They've since "fixed" the problem by creating a "program" that users can join and pay $99 to have them replace the freaking battery!!! see it here. This is getting a bit silly and seems symptomatic of a larger issue. Companies are providing faulty products that they have no capacity or intention to support. What really burns me is that WE ARE ALLOWING IT TO HAPPEN!!! This is friggin' rediculous NO?!! Think about all of the users of slashdot. We have all paid pretty pennies (I'm sure) to have computers on which we can "work" and yet we have no right to a product or service that the manufacturer will stand behind. In this age of global calling centers (HA!!!) and parts manufacturers that don't pay their employees a living wage I think we are truly contributing to the undermining of everything trustworthy. The age of craftsmanship is not behind us rather we have past the laurels of good craft from the artisan to the executive who can spin a crappy product into this year's "HARDWARE YOU HAVE TO BUY!!!"

Time to cold-boot this garbage system! >P
