NASA Revamps Historic 4-Million-kg Mars Antenna 66
coondoggie writes NASA is working on some difficult renovations to reinvigorate its 70-meter-wide 'Mars antenna.' The antenna, a key cog in NASA's Deep Space Network, needs about $1.25M worth of what NASA calls major, delicate surgery. The revamp calls for lifting the antenna — about 4 million kilograms of finely tuned scientific instruments — to a height of about 5 millimeters so workers can replace the steel runner, walls and supporting grout."

Videogames definitely help. My roommate and I played one of the burnouts for x-box for a few hours one night. Early the next morning while driving to work, I lost control of my jeep during a rainstorm while driving on an overpass. Thanks to my sweet drifting burnout skills, my instant response was to tap the brake, swing the rear end of my jeep into the wall to bounce off and straighten out. It worked like a charm. Had I not played for hours the night before, I think I would've wrecked, having never faced a loss of control on rain-slick pavement at 80 mph in real life.

So, is it wrong to assume that this variant also makes a person inept at a variety of tasks? Working, shopping, cleaning, cooking--pretty much anything that presents more than a minuscule challenge to the brain?

Kevin Garrad of the 3rd Infantry Division looks to have gotten a little assistance from an unexpected source while on a street patrol in Iraq recently, when the iPod in his pocket got in the path of a bullet fired at close range, slowing it down enough that it didn't pierce his body armor. As if that wasn't a rare enough occurrence, as you can see above, the iPod in question was an HP iPod -- imagine the odds![Via Digg]
