Journal Journal: Spamhaus Proposal may Threaten Non-Profit EMail

Spamhaus is putting forward a proposal towards ICANN to create a new Top Level Domain (TLD), .MAIL . The TLD is intended to curb false positives, and to allow spam filters to become stronger. To become a trusted mailserver you must register for a .MAIL domain.

The controversy revolves around the price of the domain, USD 2,000, which would make it out of reach of most personal websites, small not-for-profits, and some people working at home. However, if you do not sign up for a domain and shell out USD 2,000, people may block your mailserver with their spam filters.

There is an article at The Register which describes this in further detail.
