Journal Journal: Suggested solutions for Internet a new house... Time Warner stops next door :-/ 1

Hi. We're having a house built in a new subdivision outside of town, and though Time Warner Cable is in the area, it stops literally at the house next door. I've asked Time Warner when they will have service to our house, but they said the 'cable build' will not be setup until more houses are built after ours. There are some local wireless solutions that offer Internet access through a mounted antenna, but I don't know if our HOA will approve this since there are no antennas allowed. Also I'd rather not go with a satellite provider like HughesNet because for one I've heard too many horror stories and second when TW is in our area I'll be switching... so whatever I get now is just temporary.

We do everything online, including watching TV through AppleTV and Hulu, podcasting, streaming audio, plus I'm working on my BS and most of my classes are online, so I need something reliable for when taking online exams.

I know a few folks who use the Verizon MiFi, but given I hope TW is in our area within 2 years I'd rather not pay the steep cancellation fee. Plus they have a 5 Gig limit per month. But worse case does anyone have feedback on Verizon or any other cell phone carrier that offers similar services? We live just outside of the Waco, Texas, but I think most cell services are in our area.

And no I'm not asking my neighbor to piggyback on his connection, even though the house is literally 20 feet from ours.

Thanks for any suggestions and take care,

Sam Alex
