Journal Journal: School Laptops

Ok, my school decided to give laptops to all the students, well not give but loan out for an insurance fee of $50. At first it was just the Juniors and Seniors but the second year (this year), it was all grades (Freshmen - Seniors). Not a horrible idea at all, except for the fact that so many of the students are irresponsible.

Anyways, these laptops are iBook G4's, not bad systems but it's a Mac. Mac is not real world, though I've noticed so many schools (at least in my area) use mac's as their primary systems. I really do not understand this. When I askes a teacher why this was, they thought the school received good deals on the systems, but this is wrong I later found out. So why, does anyone know, schools would use Mac over Windows (or Linux?).. Administrative options can be just as secure on the other OS's (because they have these computers on lockdown hardcore!)

Journal Journal: Unix

Ok, I'm currently running Windows XP on my home computer, I tried for a long time to dual OS with Linux, I tried several different distro's including Suse, Ubuntu, Fedora Core 3, and Red Hat. None of them worked. The main reason I wanted to install Linux was so I could learn Unix. Though, I gave up on that and went and downloaded a Unix emulator, I'm wondering how much that's going to make a difference. Either way, I'm learning, just don't if I'm learning the right way.

Please feel free to comment. In fact I would appriciate it. :)
