Journal Journal: Nostalgia is highly over-rated

No scoop here, nothing most people haven't known for years. The user base here leaves even more to be desired than it did at the turn of the century.

Hate to say it, but even Facebook is better.

  1. Nostalgia is only highly rated by those who look to the past, not the future;
  2. There's way too many unemployed bums who have been faking it for years/decades, who have no real tech background, so they continue to come here to fill the void in their miserable lives;
  3. I really don't have the time for the high garbage/signal ratio here. I'm too busy to waste time on sites like this. Have to wonder about those who value their time so little - oh no, I don't - see #2 above.

So I'll be deleting the bookmarks next week. You won't miss me, and I won't miss you, so I guess it's a win/win situation. I know I feel better already :-)

Journal Journal: Buh-bye Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird 2

Both Firefox and Thunderbird have memory leaks (no, rust doesn't prevent memory leaks - see this document from rust-lang.org

Thunderbird in particular is buggy as crap, like they forgot to test it with users.

I had a long-running process so I didn't check my email for several days - and NO crashes. Thunderbird was the culprit (I had removed Firefox months ago for it consuming several times the ram other browsers use with ZERO tabs open).

I guess that's the result of firing 750 devs 3 years ago - Mitchel Baker should have been fired instead. She has run everything into the ground at Moz. Normally, when you go from 22% market share to 2%, you're not worth over 3 million a year. Normally, you're fired.

Set up my remote server to forward emails to another account, changed all my accounts as well, what a PITA.

On the good side, no more memory hogging Moz programs, and only have 2 email addresses to check now. Simple is good.

And of course, since getting rid of all the NVidia and Moz crap, the machine boots a lot faster. Praise to Arc 770LE video cards!
