Actually! - I lived through Superstorm Sandy with a diesel gen, it saved my bacon (literally) and sanity for 2 month long period. Gas was in short supply but their was NO LINE for diesel vehicles at stations that had it. Also 20 Gallons lasted about a week on my single cylinder 6kw yanmar generator. The thing is more then 20 years old since I bought it new, still works great to this day. Yeah not every station sold diesel and the one time I had trouble - I did end up driving 30 mins. out of the disaster zone, to a normal gas station in PA. BUT - In the beginning, downed tress were blocking all roads for over a full week. I'm not a prepper but A basic disaster preparedness plan is really what saved me.

IN MIL-STD-454N - which governs the standards that all military electronics are held to. ELECTRONIC PARTS AND PACKAGES CAN NOT BE PHYSICALLY MOUNTED AND HELD BY THEIR SOLDER JOINTS. In the 1950's when they used lead-solder to hold components on like normal people - during rocket launches the components would fall off the PCBs and that caused many early rockets and ICBM tests to horribly wrong! They still had the same shock problem with lead solder.... Personally - I use PB solders all the time, you can still buy it. I just take precautions after handling it and using it. Like washing my hands, using a fan to blow the fumes away..... FYI - I do know of a man that made his own lead sinkers, like his father who had no problems with it... well - he died of lead poisoning. So its bad But your 20 year old M1 tank will not have those problems BECAUSE OF SOLDER..... The military is not that stupid...

Submission + - Mac users' Internet experience to remain seamless 2

thefickler writes: Mac users will continue to see the Internet as it was intended, thanks to the renewal of a font licensing agreement between Microsoft and Apple. At TypeCon2007 Microsoft and Apple announced they have renewed their font licensing agreement, giving Apple users ongoing use of the latest versions of Microsoft Windows core fonts.

Back in 1996 Microsoft started the "Core fonts for the Web" initiative. The idea of this initiative was to create a a standard pack of fonts that would be present on all or most computers, allowing web pages to be displayed consistently on different computers. While the project was terminated in 2002, some of the fonts defined as core fonts for the web have gone on to become known as "web safe fonts", and are therefore widely used by Internet developers.
