So how'd you pull that one off Kevin
I guess I'll start off this journal with some information about me and the stuff I do. I am from a small town in Louisiana. You know, it's one of those places that no one wants to come to. There's really not much here. A Wal-Mart, two grocery stores, and some odds & ends retailers. No industry to speak of... just a small, boring, sleepy little town in the Deep South.
One day I started thinking about what it would take to change things. How can we make the town more "hip"? Can we do it??? Is it worth it???? You see, to do this, we have to change the mindset of the town.
So I started a business, a wireless internet business. I love Linux and WiFi. I stumbled across LocustWorld (http://www.locustworld.com) and fell in love with the WiFi mesh solution they provide. So, I rolled up my sleeves & deployed a WiFi network across town.
Now, I've said that in one sentence, but in reality it took a year to do it. Lots of hard work. But it's been a wonderful venture that has made a tremendous impact on our town. Yes, it's still a sleepy little town in the Deep South. But, one thing you notice as you enter town... a free WiFi hotspot! What you don't know is that this hotspot gets it's bandwidth from a tower that is 4 miles away!!! Way cool!
More important than that, the whole town is a (for-pay) WiFi hotspot. It's incredible that anywhere you go in our sleepy little town, you have WiFi!!!
BLISS is ignorance.
