I'm sorry to hear that, messner. This is something that all community admins have to deal with and it is definitely frustrating. If you ever get back into it, I would recommend looking at the resource sites for your chosen software and seeing what they offer as far as a CAPTCHA or bot solution. The truth is that people will keep innovating - on both sides. You have to experiment and adjust. Stinks, but it's a challenge that forum administrators face, for sure.

Oh yeah, you are definitely not alone. :) This is something that happens in all spaces. For example, I wrote a controversial blog post a while back and I had someone post four times in a row, using a different name each time, agreeing with him or herself. :) Fun! I think that, in this case, it would be good to take action against the obvious ones and leave the rest. I think of it as a problem and I deal with it when it is obvious, but I try not to jump to any conclusions if I can help it. I sympathize with you, definitely.

From what I have heard, the phpBB 3 CAPTCHA is quite good. I would definitely enabled it and then customize it a bit in the settings, making it more difficult. and then see how that works. Good luck with it.
