Journal Journal: Time flies when you're flipping burgers

Its been two months since I last posted that I was going to keep an ongoing blog. Maybe I realized there was nothing really good to write about? I don't know. There hasn't been much going on. All in all - the patent system is going down the tubes, Apple makes neat computers, games make kids want to kill people, alcohol and cell phones behind the wheel are bad, and another .com boom is happening. Fun times.

I've been mostly trying to get a good job. Instead I've been working in a damn kitchen at a health club that serves unhealthy food [strange]. The good news is I signed my first website client for an undisclosed amount of money [just assume a lot] and I'm moving to the beach. Also during the past two months I spent a lot of time reading shit online, I like to call it research. I'm getting pretty good at it and I want to start writing my own opinions on stuff thats going on recently because I'm starting to get all worked up about current events and articles I read. Maybe somebody would consider my opinion valueable. Another reason to keep a blog for an extended period of time is that future generations might find it interesting (at least). Recently it came to my attention I would like to read my great, great great, or even grandfathers [public] journal when my family recently came across a family tree and pictures of realitives that immigrated here a many, many moons ago. Unfortunately I don't ever think I'll get that opportunity.

I keep meaning to write down interesting topics to submit as stories or as journals, but it keeps slipping my mind. Some off the top of my head are "Why Horizon is a bad business name", "Mushrooms grow on poop", and "The really real reason most people don't use Linux".

Quick personal note of things I want to will start doing:
  • Keep better track of my accounts [when I get my iMac]
  • Maintain an ongoing todo list [need iMac, new phone]
  • Read the 6 books I recently acquired
  • Keep writing on slashdot, it gets more fun every time

Time to kick ass and chew bubble gum...

Journal Journal: It takes 21 days to form a habit

and I'm not even at 10%. Sounds worse than it is, really. I'm talking about this whole journal writing thing.

Reflecting on my day - I woke up at 12 or so which is ridiculous. I fucked around on the computer most of the day reading articles inbetween walking the dogs about a dozen times. I ate Chinese food for dinner which was fun because I got to go there twice to get all my food. They forgot my sweet & sour chicken and then gave me a hard time about it. I took a pretty good nap after that meal. I guess I might have used the excuse "its Saturday" a lot today.

I've been making these todo lists and scoring on completed/#tasks I'm barely passing, but getting better. I've successfully completed a good amount of tasks. I made some art to help motivate me, installed apache w/the goods and learned how to make it secure. This is in addition to installations of wine, cd-r, fonts, various toys and daily house chores. Tasks I haven't done are 1. research for a web business I want to start, 2. brainstorm ideas for a self-promoting website, 3. Read more. I didn't even notice this last one because its not on my to do list. Maybe it doesn't belong there I don't know.

Maybe I can't accomplish #1 & #2 because I don't know how? Nah, I know how - I kick ass at research. What could be causing me to postpone these tasks? The amount of predicted time I wrote down has been about an hour each day for 3 days now. Seems like procrastination to me. I remember bookmarking an article on procrastination maybe I'll make a task to read that for tomorrow.

Aside from that, I just noticed a terrifying trend. I made plans with an attractive lady friend of mine tonight (saturday) and instead I'm home writing on slashdot. Uh oh.

Journal Journal: presenting himself, the great white savage

I've been scouring over slashdot for about five years now, maybe longer as there were unaccountable intermissions. I have only recently registered though as I am now going down the rabbithole. I've been previously only thinking about what to do once I'm inside.

I tried other blog sites. They (blogger.com, livejournal.com TNAF) didn't seem to be very good. One I really did like was isoncrack.com for its total lack of nonsense. Even with a lude name like that and an awesome lack of utility, what good was it really going to do me?

I'm glad I much more presently discovered this seemingly great Slashdot Journal System to output some of this brain activity. Thomas L., the author of Time Management for System Administrators describes how we must write things down for a number of good reasons. I've started implementing my own similar variation of "The Cycle" from chapter four. I was pleased to find this book on review here at slashdot whilest already reading it. Time management is really something I (along with a lot of people) did not learn while at college. It would have been pretty helpful.

I hope to later post more about myself and what I plan to do with my future. Especially now that I am actively seeking a career and learning how to better achieve my goals. This article helps describe where I'm coming from.

Till next time - I'm happy to see somebody is going somewhere.
