C|Net News is reporting that
AMD has announced a new 65nm chipset
. Processors built on this chipset will use 30% less energy than a processor running at the same speed on a 90nm chipset. Initial gains will be in reduced power with future performance enhancements possible. The new chips feature a silicon germanium film that improves performance; this is a first for AMD but something that Intel has been doing for quite a while. The article goes on to discuss AMD and Intel's chip war and the effects this new technology will have on it. All in all a worthwhile read.
