Journal Journal: cold cold winter
Well,
another cold and it is the third since the winter started. The old heating system in my workplace is to blame, of course.
Anyway... reading Donna Tartt's The Little Friend. Lovely piece of art. Not as exciting as The Secret History, but a Very GOOD Novel indeed.
Madrid is becoming more and more of a black hole.
The problems brought by unchecked immigration is turning more and more people into racists. The object of many people's rants are the Colombians. Noisy, not quite polite, and many of them out of a job don't help much, though.
The latest protests come from the fact that they take over parks and other public places and meet there, listen to their music and deal with foods and products and services... For example, many of them cook food and sell them around without as much as a administrative permit, others cut their hair, while others bet and gamble, and attack each other in drunken stupor. The parks are filled with trash by the time they leave.
What most people miss is that these Colombians are but a tiny percentage of all the nice people who come here to live peacefully. That many of them are ashamed of the behaviour of this minority. That most Colombians are nice, peaceful people that come here to save a few bucks and provide an education to their children so they might come back and start anew in their native regions.
I wonder at the laxitude the police act against these violent and not quite social minority. How it is that when a illegal alien is caught stealing is not immediately sent back upon the judge's sentence and are allowed to wander back and forth in some sort of administrative lymbo...
