Journal Journal: Nokia to sell Security Division

Niklas Savander, head of Nokia's services and software business, told Reuters the company expects to close the sale of the unit -- which offers products such as firewalls and virtual private networks (VPNs) -- within a few weeks. Nokia will focus on developing and selling corporate phones, while partnering with the likes of Microsoft , IBM and Cisco on a wider offering for companies. "This is a significant revision of its business strategy that underlines the magnitude of the challenge facing Nokia in its push into consumer web services," said CCS Insight analyst Geoff Blaber. http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssTechMediaTelecomNews/idUSLT54500020080929

Journal Journal: Microsoft in Google's Aim

Google just bought Wrightly, an online word competetor. Go figure... Just the news that is fit to print, or type? "The free service allows users with a web browser to compose and save word processing documents online. The move by Google suggests that the next battle faced between it and Microsoft will be with its word processing application. " Source http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news.php?newsId=2755

Journal Journal: Home Media Servers gear up to serve...

Ever dreamed of hosting all your movies, music, pictures and such in your home, available to every room via the remote and a TV (I won't even begin to dream of video games). It just makes sense for every room to have all of your media via a hub, consisting of a Monitor, Remote and optional recievers and speakers (or another computer, handheld, etc). But current servers hardware just isn't built for media services. There are issues with the distribution of data efficiently to multiple sources demanding serious overhead, especially with DVD and HDTV recordings. Agere has kicked off the HomeNAS Media Server war; I personally can't wait to see where this takes us. "Agere Systems today announced that the world's fastest multimedia and storage networking portfolio of chips for homes and businesses. These trailblazing media server chips accelerate the speed at which multimedia files are transferred within homes and businesses approximately twenty times faster than all competing chips." Developing processors and boards to realize this idea is a great start, and look at the specs, this thing looks like a great start. I don't work for them, but would love to demo this thing...\. http://www.agere.com/NEWS/PRESS2005/052505b.html
